Re: Re: [-empyre-] academia-From marc garrett
right back at you Marc.
wouldn't we art wankers ( all of us) call that emergence. i personally enjoy reading things that get a little emotive and enable the lurker/participant to engage in a little exposure of themselves, in which ever form it takes.
I think what lists tend to be unable to rememdy is the fact that we are in 'virtual' and platonic relationships with the rest of the list ( unless everyone else knows everyone else which would then make me feel doubly worse and like an intruder not part of the conversation).
I expect nothing and want nothing from this list, I actually do enjoy trying to decipher what I read, and also admire some of the intellectual banter and the writers of such. I have always been of the belief that should I really get too critical of a group of people who seem to be happy in what they do, then the onus is on me to leave the conversation...my own practice as an installation artist seems to constantly return to the idea of Utopic race relations, so, in my making myself vulnerable to a group which could academically chew me up and spit me out is a performative act, where I actively engage in the conversation after I feel like I have listened enough to add my byte. Does that make sense?
much respect to you Marc. ( ps - I know one other person on this list - yay time to party!!!!!!!!!!!!!)LEafa^^^^>>>>

Yes I believe that discussions can and do become exclusive ( and yes it does seem like the intellectual nod of acceptance)which is probably why I remain largely in the realm of the lurker and read the archives to 'keep up' with some of the conversations posted on Empyre.
